12 Ways To Be Healthier

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

Want to loose weight, sleep better and boost your immune system?

1. Have a lie down
Back pain can be avoided and the damage repaired with one easy exercise, which is lie down on the floor with your knees bent, hip width apart, feet on the floor. Do this daily for about five to fifteen minutes to release and lengthen your spine.

2.  Note your nibbles
Crash diets don’t work for long enough; instead maintain a food dairy to note your daily eating habits. With this you’ll be conscious of what you eat, and make healthier choices.

3.  10 deep breaths
Our breath power our lymphatic system, which removes waste from cells. By taking 10 deep breaths, three times a day, you’ll clear more toxins and boost your thinking power by getting 20% more oxygen to your brain.

4.  Put your fork down
Put your fork down between every mouthful of food, it makes you chew your food properly, preventing digestive problems, and also prevents you from over- eating. (more…)

The Health Aspects Of Chocolate

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

Chocolate is relaxing. It’s calming. It soothes our nerves and makes us feel good. And we often think of it as a sinful indulgence. But it doesn’t have to be. If you choose your chocolate wisely, you can enjoy it without the guilty feelings we normally associate with it.

What Are the Healthy Aspects of Chocolate ?

By eating small amounts of the right chocolate, you’ll enjoy the many health aspects of chocolate. Chocolate contains high levels of potassium and magnesium, as well as vitamins B1, B2, D and E. If that’s not reason enough to reach for a daily dose of chocolate, consider that it can also lower blood pressure and prevent arteries from hardening, therefore protecting the heart.

Has Chocolate Been Wrongly Accused ?

For the most part, chocolate has been wrongly accused. New studies are finding that common beliefs about the effects of chocolate are not true after all. While we wont to associate chocolate with acne, researchers have now dismissed a possible link between the two. While some people avoided chocolate because of the caffeine level associated with it, we now know that a small serving only contains as much caffeine as a cup of decaffeinated coffee. Does chocolate really cause migraines? Well, only when consumed in large amounts. Again, moderation plays a big role here. (more…)

Why Vegetarianism Is Good For You and The Planet

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

Even the Utah Beef Council admits, “Several epidemiological studies indicate that vegetarians have lower morbidity and mortality from chronic degenerative diseases.” Today, vegetarians only make up about two percent of the population, but everyday progressively people give up eating red meat or try their first bite of tofu. Aside from ethics, what are the main reasons people are turning away from meat? Health and the ecology.

Lower rates of disease amongst vegetarians

Hundreds of different studies concur, showing that vegetarians who eat balanced diets have lower rates of coronary artery disease, hypertension, obesity, and certain cancers. Registered Dietician Winston Craig says that flesh-eating costs Americans somewhere between $30-$60 billion each year in medical expenses for hypertension, heart condition, cancer, diabetes, gallstones, obesity, and food-borne illnesses associated with meat. Craig says that a vegetarian diet is associated with lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure, and less obesity. (more…)

Your Vegetables May Be Laced With Antibiotics

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Careful what you eat, especially whenever you’re hypersensitive to certain antibiotics. Recent studies have shown that some vegetables absorb the antibiotic chemicals from the soil they’re grown in. Why? Animal manure.

In our vast food chain, it seems that we have come across the elemental irony. Humans are now being penalised by their own attempts to optimize the animal and fertiliser industries. Rather than people being superior to animals and plants in the food chain, we are now being “kicked down the pants,” as we say.

Here’s the explanation: Animals raised for human consumption are often fed antibiotics called for to make them stronger and larger, making them more marketable animals, according to the Journal of Environmental Quality’s report on antibiotic infused crops. In raising these animals, their manure is also collected to be used for soil in raising crops. This muck, used as soil, has now been found to transfer the antibiotics put in the animal feed to the very plants that grow in that soil. Put differently, by feeding animals antibiotics to make the best of the market, we’re actual introducing a potential danger in human consumption. (more…)

You Have A Home Air Purification System But You Neglected Everything Else!

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

Home air purification systems are being purchased by the millions. Many adults both with and without children are realizing that the one thing they can control in their home is the air they breath. Many have done their diligent studies or took it on recommendation that the air outside is harmful, but the air inside(up to 70 times more toxic)can be made cleaner by purchasing and installing some sort of unit that will help clean the air.

And a good choice it was. Several units will filter out the dust, the dander from their pets, and another particulate that has unseen. Some units can even filter out some of the toxins that float around us while we’re in our home. And they work too.

But did you know that these airborne toxins, once on the skin, can actually cause as much harm to you, your children and your pets, as it does to inhale them? Most people know this subconsciously, but they neglect to do anything about it. (more…)
