Why We Love Food Network

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

Whenever I hear somebody say they hate TV it amazes me.  My next question is always “what do you watch?”  I never seem to get a straight answer.  With the advent of cable television service and satellite television, there has always something on.

For food lovers, food network has to be the best thing on TV since Julia Child was on the air.  Between the celebrities that do the cooking, and the topics and recipes that they pick, what else could you ask for. It really was an ingenious concept, a food channel that is on 24 hour a day all about food. It’s even a better fit than the golf channel, or the history channel or any other channel because everybody eats.

Once you add the personalities of the ”Celebrity Chefs”  to the shows, you can only have a winning formula.  Rachael Ray is definitely my favorite, it seems as if, just like all of the chefs that she has always in a great mood, which is always refreshing. Then there’s Emeril, who must be the most popular, has combined an open forum with music and celebrity guests.  For Emeril to be the standout for food network makes perfect sense, his knowledge of food is unbelievable, he has very easy to like for men and women, and he likes to have fun.  It’s almost as if  you’re in his house while he’s cooking (more…)

Spend Time Not Money With The Kids this Wintertime

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

Spending quality time with your children doesn’t need to cost a lot of money. Whats most important, is that you take the chance to bond with them. The time that you spend with your children will make them feel special and they’ll treasure it for a lifetime. Letting your children know that you’re there for them, will create a lasting bond between you and your children.

The winter months can be rather dull for children since they’re cooped up in the house more than they would like to be. This is a great time for you to let your children know you feel their discomfort by giving them some one on one attention from mom. It doesn’t require a good deal of money to make those boring winter days stuck indoors special.

One simple and inexpensive suggestion would be to make a plan with your child to watch his or her favorite television show, TV program or video together. Overmuch television isn’t always a good thing, however, to clear up a winter day trapped indoors, it’s a perfect activity. Shortly before you watch the program or movie you’ve selected with your children, ask them to help prepare some of their favorite snacks for the event. All children love to help mama mess up the kitchen a little and specially whenever it means eating their favorite snack foods. A couple quick and easy snack suggestions would be preparing smores, which happens to be my children’s favorite snack food. Not only do they like to eat them, but they love making them. (more…)

White Barbecue Sauce – Gourmet Bbq Sauce At It’s Best

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Barbecuing isn’t what it wont to be. When growing up the only time that my family would start up the grill or smoker was in the summer and on the weekends. Today, people barbeque every night and all year-around. Barbeque sauces have come along way since then as well. There wont to be only a couple of choices at your local market. But now with the invention of “super” markets the amount barbeque sauces you can buy locally has grown importantly. For those gourmet barbeque sauces the web is probably the only place you’ll find these unique sauces. If you don’t live in the Alabama area the only place you’ll find traditional White BBQ Sauce like Big Bob Gibson’s gets on the web or of course you can try to arrive yourself.

In Alabama barbeque traditional Sauce uses Mayonnaise as its base besides tomato sauce, vinegar, or any of the other more distinctive barbeque sauce bases. It’s clearly a region favorite. Bob Gibson of Decatur, Alabama is credited with the invention the white sauce back in 1925. Friends and family were first treated to this secret-recipe sauce on chicken and pork at weekend barbecues where boards were nailed to trees for tables. Today, this famous mayonnaise-based condiment is traditionally employed to baste chicken, seafood and pork. (more…)

Why Go To A Culinary School?

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

Many people are aware that a person who’s studied in a culinary school can be called an expert in the field of meal preparation. But how easy is it to enter a culinary school, especially for those aspiring to become the best cooks in their fields?

A culinary school offers several programs and disciplines so before applying, you should have already decided on the specialty or the area that you’re interested to center on.

Future cooks can choose from a two-year associate degree program,  a bachelor’s degree program or from a variety of certificate or diploma programs.

A person who prefer to* be educated in the area of cuisines but who cannot decide on a specialty can opt for an associate degree program since it involves the basics of culinary arts like proper nutrition, food presentation, kitchen procedures and the basic knife skills. Most schools offering an associate degree programs in culinary arts require their students to do undergo an internship program before they’re allowed to graduate. A culinary arts associate degree holder can find work in hotels and restaurants and in private catering companies particularly in the areas of food production and management of the kitchen. The associate degree course can be credited when the person with an associate degree decides to pursue a four-year course. (more…)
