A New Family Planning Alternative

Deciding when their family is the right size-or how to be sure it stays that size-is a personal decision that many women may find easier to make in the years to come.

For women who have decided that they don’t want any longer children and feel ready for a permanent form of birth prevention, “getting your tubes tied,” or tubal ligation, is no longer the only option.

Afresh office-based procedure known as the Essure procedure is quickly replacing the old operation and is covered by most insurance plans.

During the procedure, a tiny, soft spring, called a micro-insert, is placed into each uterine tube. The body’s natural response causes tissue to grow into the micro-inserts, blocking sperm from reaching the egg. This tissue growth takes about three months and additional birth control must be used during this time. (more…)

Picking a Name Before Your Pregnancy Ends

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

Selecting a name is among the most important things you’ll have to decide on during your pregnancy.  Pick a name that your child is going to love, not something he/she will hate or be made fun of. There are a lot of things to consider when naming your child.

1. Origin

The origin of a name can help you pick out what name you like best, this also adds a piece of history to your child. Giving your son/daughter an Italian name because their great grandfather originally came across from Sicily will mean a lot to the family. Let alone your child will always know they’re Italian. This doesn’t mean you can only choose names that go with your heritage, there mayhap a name out there that belongs to your child that isn’t.

2. The Sound of the Name

Names can be hard to pronounce sometimes, not just for other people but for your child as well. Don’t choose a name you’ve a hard enough time saying, imagine how hard it’ll be for your own child to learn. The spelling can also be a cause for concern. Your child must learn how to spell his/her name, you don’t want a name that is over 20 letters long. Do you think you’d be able to learn to spell that in kindergarten? Think of your child first, sure the name might sound great but be sure it isn’t something that’s going to be really hard. This doesn’t mean don’t choose a name that has unique, that has what makes your child stand out. But make sure that has what you really want. (more…)
