Concerns During Pregnancy

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

There has nothing more stressful than to have something go wrong during pregnancy. It doesn’t matter if it’s your first nonce pregnant or your fourth. There are many things to be concerned about during your pregnancy and it’s easier when you know what they’re.

Vaginal bleeding- these may a.k.a. spotting, but be sure that has what is going on. There has a difference between actively bleeding and spotting. Spotting is lightly bleeding kind of like your period, the blood can be red, pink or even brown. Whenever you’re bleeding actively with any pain call your doctor, if you can’t get a hold of him go immediately to the emergency room. Bleeding can be a number of things from implantation, extrauterine pregnancy, labor, infection or even miscarriage. Always let your doctor know, so everything can be closed out, you’ll feel better too.

Stomach pain or cramping- During the pregnancy it mayhap hard to decipher the difference between a growing pain and an actual stomach pain/cramping. However, if you do get a pain of any sort rest. After some minutes if it doesn’t subside, call your doctor and describe the pain to him. Don’t worry about it if you find out you only had gas or were having Braxton hicks contractions, at the least you know everything is okay with pregnancy. (more…)

Why Do We Celebrate Fun Birthdays?

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

Apart from the obvious answer about why we celebrate fun birthdays… have you ever stopped to think of this age-old tradition?

Birthdays date way back in history to a time when people originally dreaded evil spirits. This evil spirits were thought to be more active on the day of your birth.  Family and friends would gather in a circle around the birthday person and would chant and sing bringing them nothing but good thoughts. The giving of gifts was another to bring even more cheer and goodwill to ward off the evil spirits.

Noisemakers were also thought to have been used at these parties as another way of scaring evil spirits off. Torches or candles would be lit believing they were sending a prayer to the gods and when the candles were burned out it was thought that the smoke carried these prayers or wishes into the heavens, where they thought the gods lived, so they would be granted.

Looking backward through history the only documented birthdays recorded are of kings and other noble dignitaries.  The poorer people and especially children didn’t celebrate in the least. Historians have explained this, as only nobility was wealthy enough to be able to afford such an extravagance as a party. (more…)

3 Healthy Benefits Of White Tea

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

It is not just chefs but also medical researchers who are praising the benefits of white tea for your health.  In fact there are many different kinds of benefit of white tea that a person can have and we’ll view some people.  Just first we’ll provide you with a brief explanation as to what white tea is.  It’s made from the immature tea leaves that will be picked before the buds have fully opened on the plant.  The name comes from the silver fuzz which still covers the buds and this successively then turns the tea white as it dries.  There is many different varieties of white tea available and this all depends upon the amount of leaves to buds that are used in each mixture.  The White Peony for instance has one bud for every two leaves in its mixture whilst Silver Needles (the crème de la crème) is made entirely from the down buds and these are normally picked within a two day period during early Spring.

So we have now viewed what White Tea is we’ll now come on to the different benefits a person can gain from using this particular product.

1.  Anti-Viral and Anti-Bacterial Effects

Studies carried out at Pace University have indicated that White Tea extract may have prophylactic applications which can help to retard the growth of bacteria which can cause Staphylococcus infections, Steptococcus infections, Pneumonia and Dental Caries.  It was also found that White Tea is more effective than Green Tea at inactivating bacterial viruses as well as having an anti-viral effect on human pathogenic viruses.   (more…)

Why Do We Celebrate Grandparents Day?

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

Grandparents Day started with the idea of honoring the elderly and championing the cause of the lonely in nursing and retirement homes.  Marian McQuade, a housewife from Mountain State, brainstormed the idea, which was later to become a nationally recognized holiday, thank you to President Carter in 1978.  Now the holiday is celebrated on the first Sunday after Labour Day, in September among the first vacations of the academic year that greatly affects most students.

McQuade, the master founder of Grandparents Day, is the mother of fifteen children, grandmother of forty, and great-grandmother of three.  With so many descendants, she was cognisant of the special bond that children should have with their grandparents.  While mothers and fathers are the main source of discipline and example in a child’s life, his or her grandparents have a profound affect on viewpoints.  Without the wisdom of the grandparents, many children today wouldn’t understand what it was like to grow up without the technology and amenities of today’s world and wouldn’t appreciate what they’ve nearly as much.
